(William) Alexander Jackson (1919-2005) was a well-known painter, printmaker and art teacher.  He attended the Royal College of Art in London but his studies were interrupted by service in World War II which he resumed once the war ended.  Jackson became an art teacher and ultimately was appointed Principal of the Bournville School of Art near Birmingham. In company with his fellow artists Gordon Yapp and Waveney Fredrick he founded the Birmingham Pastel Society and the first show there was held in 1984.
