Bernard Cheese, RE (1925-2013) was one of Britain's best known and respected printmakers. Born at Sydenham, he studied at the Royal College of Art in London 1947-50, and then taught printmaking at St Martin's School of Art and Design before becoming Senior Lecturer at Goldsmith's College, London. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1950 and was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers in 1988. He lived in Essex for many years, and numerous examples of his work are held in public collections including by the Contemporary Art Society, the Arts Council, Fry Art Gallery in Saffron Walden, and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
