Brian Midlane (1913-1996) was a well-known painter and draughtsman, born in Wellington, New Zealand but raised in Australia. He was the partner of the Australian artist Mollie Paxton (born 1914) and together they first came to England in 1939. They returned to Australia due to War World II but came back to Pimlico in London by the late 1940s. He worked both in England and in Paris and exhibited with Roland, Browse & Delbanco, The Leicester Galleries, and other contemporary galleries. He had a recognisable, individual style.
