John Barnicoat (1924-2013) was a well-known painter, administrator and teacher. He grew up in Cornwall. After World War II service in the Navy, Barnicoat studied history at Lincoln College, Oxford University. He was a student at Royal College of Art, 1952–55, and later was senior tutor there in the painting school, 1976–80. He had his first one-man show at Galerie Colette Allendy, in Paris, in 1959 and was a regular exhibitor with the London Group 1955-96. Other solo shows were held with Molton Gallery (Annely Juda) and Taranman Gallery, London. Two examples of his work are held in the Government Art Collection. John Barnicoat lived in London.
