John Selway (born 1938) is a well-known painter and teacher. He was born in Askern, South Yorkshire, but moved when very young to Abertillery in South Wales. He studied at Newport College of Art 1953-57 and at the Royal College of Art 1959-62. Selway became a member of the 56 Group and showed his work widely in the UK and abroad, including at the International Art Fairs in Dusseldorf and Basel.  Solo shows were held at Roland Browse and Delbanco and the Piccadilly Gallery, both in London, and at Oriel Washington Gallery in Cardiff.  A retrospective was held at Newport Museum and Art Gallery in 2006. John Selway lives in Abertillery and his work is held in several public collections.
