Lucy Jones (born 1955, London) is a well-known contemporary painter and printmaker. She studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art (1974-76), Camberwell School of Art (1976-79) and then at the Royal College of Art, London (1979-82). In 1982 she was awarded the highly prestigious Prix de Rome which enabled her to study for two years at the British School in Rome. She first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1981 and in 1987 she had her first solo show at Flowers Gallery, which was the beginning of a long and successful relationship with that gallery both in London and in New York. Other solo shows have been held in her home town of Ludlow, Shropshire. The artist’s work is held in a number of public galleries, including Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Arts Council collection; the British Council; University of Birmingham; Usher Gallery, Lincoln; and the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut. Her work is inspired by the landscapes in Herefordshire, Shropshire and the Welsh Borders.
