Title: 'Driver II'

Description: This is an etching with aquatint annotated as 'BAT' lower left (BAT means 'Bon á tirer' which translates as “good to pull).” This is the first perfect impression of the work and the one that was used to judge all other impressions in the edition. It is pencil signed by the artist lower right and dated 1985. There is a printers (?) note lower left which reads 'Have 3 to do'. The print is on T H Saunders watermarked paper and has deckle edges with full margins. This etching was published in a small edition of 35 prints and is quite scarce and especially so as a BAT print.

The provenance of this work is the estate of the former Morley College (London) tutor and master printmaker, the late Richard Michell, who in latter years had his home and studio in Dorking, Surrey. He worked on the printing of works by a number of artists including David Hockney OM, CH, RA and Michael Sandle RA.
