Mollie Dorothea Paxton (1914-2013) was an Australian painter, born in Sydney. She studied at East Sydney Technical College over a six year period and in 1939 she married the artist Brian Emerson Miles Midlane (1913-1996) in Sydney. She visited England in 1939 together with her husband, returning home due to impending war. In 1944 she entered a portrait into the competition organised by Art Gallery, New South Wales in Sydney for the Armitage Prize. After the end of World War 2 the Midlanes returned to London, settling in Pimlico. She and Brian Midlane had a joint show at The Leicester Galleries in London early in 1948. Her work was reviewed favourably in The Spectator magazine of 20th February 1948. Dancing figures were often a feature of her work. She exhibited also in Paris and, of course, in Australia. Mollie Paxton died in Westminster, London, aged 99 years.
