Robert Adams (1917-1984) was a well known sculptor, painter and printmaker. Born in Northampton he studied at Northampton School of Art in 1933 and again part time there from 1938-44. He taught at the Central School of Arts and Crafts 1949-60. Adams exhibited widely including at the Venice Biennale 1962 and with the Redfern Gallery and Gimpel Fils, with whom he was associated from 1947. His work is represented in many public collections including The Tate Gallery, Arts Council and MOMA New York. Retrospective shows were held at Northampton Art Gallery 1971 and at Gimpel Fils 2003.
