Derrick Sayer (1917-1992) was a painter of both figurative and abstract works, a book illustrator and poster artist, and a teacher, becoming Head of Art at Chelsea Westminster Adult Education Institute 1966-1982. He studed at Chelsea School of Art under Henry Moore and Graham Sunderland, and thereafter for a time in the studio of Ben Nicholson in Paris. In conjunction with George Lamborn and Guy Allen he founded the Mousehole Group Art School in the late 1930s. Sayer exhibited widely, including at the Redfern Gallery, the Leicester Galleries, Mayor Gallery, Modern Art Gallery, Wilton Gallery etc. He lived in Fulham.
