MIECZYSLAW LURCZYNSKI (1907-1992) was a well-known painter in oil and watercolour of landscapes, portraits and figure subjects, noted in particular for his paintings of subjects in north Africa. He had a strong sense of colour in his work. Lurczynski was born in Russia to Polish parents and settled in Paris in 1949, where he exhibited regularly at the Salon d'Hiver and Salon des Indépendants. In 2003 the Institut Polonais in Paris held a solo exhibition of his work. He was one of the group of painters known loosely as the École de Paris and he was also a poet of some note. Later in life he spent some time working in England.
