The Environment:-

RetroSixty is committed to being eco friendly not just at home but wherever possible in the operation of our business.  We try to recycle packaging wherever possible and our paintings and prints, and other smaller objects, are normally sent out in cartons which are 80% recycled and 100% recyclable

Of course the furniture we sell was often made from timber cut in the 1950s to 1980s, and thus the carbon footprint occurred long ago. By careful use and maintenance of these pieces they can be 're-cycled' to new owners and thereby preserved on a sustainable basis for future generations. In regard to the art we sell we aim as far as possible to retain the existing frames, so as to preserve the original look of the piece and to avoid the need to have new frames made which inevitably has an impact by the use of further natural resources in the process.

About Nick:-

I was always destined to have a future in the world of art and antiques. My father wrote books on the subject in the 1970s, and having grown up (literally!) surrounded by art I began to take an interest in the mid 1990s.

By 2000 my personal taste had moved into Modern British art and Mid Century Modern furniture, in particular the work of the Eames', George Nelson, and Arne Jacobsen, and the artists Alan Davie, William Gear and Henry Cliffe. I started to buy items of furniture, glass and lighting for my newly acquired first home - however, as collectors know all too well I bought far too much and needed to create some space!

This led to the birth of RetroSixty. I would consider American design to be my forte but also have a great appreciation of Danish design with Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner and Poul Kjaerholm being some of my favourite designers - and a good few pieces by these 20th century greats are on display in my own home.

However, my real passion for Mid Century Design lies with Charles & Ray Eames and the great George Nelson. I also have a keen interest in American architecture and have followed the work of Richard Neutra, Frank Lloyd Wright and the 'Case Study' program.

I do hope you enjoy the visit to my site, and if I can help with anything no matter how big or small please feel free to ask!

Regards,

Nick Waters
