About Us

I was always destined to have a future in the world of Modern British Art and antiques. My father wrote books on the subject in the 1970s, and having grown up (literally!) surrounded by art I began to take an interest in the mid 1990s.  By 2000 my personal taste had moved into Modern British Art and Mid Century Modern furniture, in particular the work of the designers Poul Kjaerholm, Hans Wegner and Arne Jacobsen, and artists such as John Armstrong, William Gear and Alan Davie. I started to buy items of furniture and lighting for my newly acquired first home - however, as collectors know all too well I was tempted to buy far too much and needed to create some space. This led to the birth of RetroSixty in 2006. In 2014 I formed a new business to run alongside RetroSixty, under the name 'Nick Waters Art' to focus on Modern British Art with a small selection of Scandinavian Design. The site may be found at www.nickwatersart.co.uk

In June 2023, after 17 years, RetroSixty rebranded to 'Nick Waters Affordable Art' to sit alongside our sister business Nick Waters Art. The website will continue to offer affordable predominately Modern British works up to the value of £750.

During my time as a collector (which I am still at heart) I greatly valued the advice and business relationship with dealers.  I think it is important to build confidence and trust and with this in mind I want to recognise the relationships I have with my regular customers by rewarding their loyalty and business through not only top class service but also occasionally special offers and regular updates on the availability of new stock. Please therefore consider creating an account and also sign up for the regular newsletter if you wish to enjoy these customer benefits. The newsletters will usually be issued monthly but may be a little more frequent if events warrant it. It is worth following our Instagram account to keep up to date with new works.

I do hope you enjoy the visit to my site/s, and if I can help with anything no matter how large or small please feel free to ask.
