Colville Barclay: Sir Herbert Colville Barclay, Bt (1913-2010) studied art at the Ruskin School of Art under Albert Rutherston. He exhibited a number of pictures at the Royal Academy in the 1950s and 1960s, and also showed at the Royal Society of British Artists, the London Group, and in the provinces. His work is held in several public collections and is now much sought after. A still life painting in oils by the artist from the Evill / Frost collection sold at Sotheby's, London in June 2011 for £13,750. Sir Colville lived at Petworth in West Sussex and the present watercolour was acquired from him in the 1990s..
