John Bolam:
John Bolam (1922-2009) was a well known
painter, designer and teacher, who worked initially in
the English Neo-Romantic tradition but later became more
interested in abstraction. He was born in 1922 in
Amersham in Buckinghamshire and studied painting at
Hornsey School of Art. He exhibited at the AIA Gallery,
Whitechapel Art Gallery, the Arts Council Gallery, The
Leicester Galleries and had a one-man show at The New
Art Centre in Chelsea. John Bolam was Head of the
School of Art at Cambridge College of Arts and
Technology 1970-83 and had a close association with the
Great Bardfield group of artists in Essex. He lived for
many years in Saffron Walden and the
public
collection of his work is held at the Fry Art Gallery in
that Essex town.
