Joyce Cairns: Joyce Winifred Cairns, RSA, RSW (born 1947) is one of Scotland's leading contemporary painters, printmakers and art teachers. Born at Haddington in East Lothian, she studied at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen and later at the Royal College of Art in London and Gloucester College of Art and Design, Cheltenham. She has exhibited widely, including at the Royal Scottish Academy from 1971, and has won many prizes and awards. Joyce Cairns was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour 1979, a member of the Scottish Society of Artists 1980, an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy 1985, President of the Aberdeen Artists Society 1985-88, and a full member of the Royal Scottish Academy 1998. She lives in the coastal village of Footdee, at the mouth of Aberdeen Harbour, and maintains a very interesting website detailing her life and work.
