Cecil:
Roger Cecil (born 1942, Abertillery, Monmouthshire) is a
painter, draughtsman and teacher. He studied under John
Wright and Thomas Rathmell at Newport College of Art
1959-63, attaining the highest award of the National
Diploma in Design. He also won the David Murray
Landscape prize from the Royal Academy and took up a
place at the Royal College of Art in London, although he
remained there for a few weeks only before returning to
south Wales. In 1964 the BBC made a documentary about
him and his work titled 'The Gentle Rebel'. For a long
period Roger Cecil did not exhibit his work but from
1987 he showed regularly with Business Art Galleries,
later to be brought under the same roof as The Curwen
Gallery, London W1. Roger Cecil also had a show at
Gallery 27 in Cork Street London W1 in 1999, and now
shows periodically in Wales where he has lived and
worked for many years.
