Carl Cheek:
Carl Cheek, ARCA (born 1922) is a painter of portraits,
conservation pieces, still lifes and landscapes, mainly
in oil and also in pastel. He was born in Sweden to a
British father and Swedish mother and was educated in
both England and Sweden. He studied at Chelsea School of
Art 1945-48 and then at the Royal College of Art in
London under Ruskin Spear, Carel Weight, Robert Buhler,
John Minton and Francis Bacon. He first exhibited at
the Royal Academy in 1950, and also showed with the
Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Redfern Gallery,
Leicester Galleries, Piccadilly Gallery, Beaux Arts
Gallery, John Moores Liverpool, etc. His work is
represented in the Government Art Collection and he has
lived in London for many years.
