Hilary
Cobbett:
Hilary Dulcie Cobbett, RSMA, SWA (born 1885, Richmond, Surrey) was a
painter in oil and watercolour mainly of coastal and harbour scenes
although she did paint flower subjects too. She studied at Richmond
School of Art 1903-05 and again from 1924-27, and was elected an
Associate member of the Society of Women Artists in 1935. Cobbett
painted extensively in France, and also in Italy,
Portugal, Belgium, Holland, and along the coasts of Cornwall, Devon,
Sussex and Norfolk. She exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal
Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, and
Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters. She was a founder member of
the Society of Marine Artists in 1939 and became a full member of
the Society of Women Artists in 1961. Hilary Cobbett lived in
Richmond for many years and died circa 1973. Her work is represented
in the National Maritime Museum, Cornwall and by two paintings in
the collection of the Borough of Richmond Upon Thames.
