Ruth Collet:
Ruth Collet (1909-2001) was a well known painter and
printmaker of landscapes, figure subjects and interiors.
Born in Hertfordshire she studied at the Slade School in
London under Wilson Steer and Henry Tonks, and later in
Paris under S W Hayter. Ruth Collet exhibited at the
Royal Academy from 1938, at the New English Art Club
from 1944, also with the London Group and Women's
International Art Club, and at the Goupil and Leicester
Galleries etc. In her early years she was associated
with the East London Group and showed with them in the
1930s under her maiden name of Ruth Salaman. Her work
is held by the Israeli Embassy in London and by the Ben
Uri Art Society. Ruth Collet lived in Highgate in the
1930s and later in Northwood, Middlesex for many years.
