Henry Collins:
Henry Collins (1910-1994) was
a well known painter, printmaker, designer and teacher.
He was born in Colchester, and studied
at Colchester School of Art and at the Central School of
Arts and Crafts in London. After working as a freelance
designer for the Central Office of Information at the
Festival of Britain, he was commissioned for a number of
exhibition designs and murals. His design work
was usually undertaken in partnership with his wife
Joyce Pallot (1912-2004). He taught graphic design for
25 years at St Martin's School of Art and also taught at
Colchester School of Art. Henry Collins exhibited
widely, including at the Royal Academy from 1955 and
with the Colchester Art Society, of which he was a
founder member. He and his wife shared a joint show at
The Minories in Colchester in 1984 and in 1995-96 Essex
County Libraries held a Memorial Exhibition of his work
which toured the county.
