Piero Dorazio: Piero Dorazio (1927-2005) was an important Italian abstract painter and printmaker, and Modernist.  He was born in Rome, and after the Second World War began exhibiting with other young artists, including Forma 1, the first group of Italian abstract artists.  In 1947 he went to Paris to study at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, and it was in France that he met Georges Braque and Francis Picabia.  In 1953 he taught in the United States and became acquainted with Willem de Koonig.

Dorazio's work is strong in colour and often with a simple, geometric design. He exhibited widely, especially in Italy and America.  He was included in the iconic show 'The Responsive Eye' at MOMA in New York in 1965.  He lived at Todi in Umbria.
