Donald Hamilton Fraser: Donald Hamilton Fraser, RA (1929-2009) is one of Britain's best known painters and printmakers. Born in London, he studied art at St Martin's School of Art 1949-52 and in Paris under a French Government Scholarship 1953-54. He exhibited widely, including several one man shows at Gimpel Fils and at Paul Rosenberg & Co in New York City, and he was elected a full member of the Royal Academy in 1985. He is best known for his landscapes and coastal scenes in the West of Scotland and the countries of the Mediterranean, and for his ballet subjects. The artist's work is represented in numerous public collections including the Government Art Collection; Arts Council of Great Britain; Cheltenham, Guildford, Hull, Nottingham, Reading and Southampton Art Galleries; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts and many other institutions in the United States. He lived at Henley on Thames.
