Le Bas:
Philip Le Bas, RBA, NEAC (born 1925) is a
well known painter mainly of landscapes, street scenes
and still life subjects, working for many years
principally in enamel paints. He was born in the Gironde
in south west France, cousin of the artist Edward Le
Bas. Philip Le Bas studied painting at the Regent Street
Polytechnic 1948-51 and at Brighton College of Art
1951-52. He exhibited widely, including at the Royal
Academy from 1951, with the New English Art Club
1955-67, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, and the
Royal Society of British Artists. Solo shows include the
Trafford Gallery, the Piccadilly Gallery, and the Portal
Gallery with whom he has enjoyed a long association. Le
Bas was elected a member of the RBA 1953 and
subsequently of the NEAC. He lived in London and later
near Alresford in Hampshire.
