Ben Mathews: Ben Mathews, ROI, PNS (1889-1975) spent much of his working life in France and Spain, and although he was elected a member of the prestigious Royal Institute of Oil Painters and President of the National Society of Painters and Gravers, he never achieved as much recognition in this country as his work deserved.  A retrospective exhibition was held at the Northampton Art Gallery in 1972, and as we have copied the catalogue below we won't repeat here further biographical information on Ben Mathews.
