Leszek Muszynski:
Polish born Leszek Muszynski (born 1923) is well known
as a painter and printmaker. He came to Britain and
studied at Edinburgh College of Art under William
Gillies and John Maxwell 1946-49. His work was exhibited
at the Royal Academy and at the Royal Scottish Academy
from 1948 to 1988, and was shown in numerous one man
exhibitions in London and abroad. After retirement from
teaching at Farnham School of Art he lived in Hampshire,
and also spent time working at his homes in Ibiza and
Mexico. Muszynski's work is represented in the Victoria
& Albert Museum and the National Portrait Gallery (a
portrait of Anne Redpath dated 1948). Because of his
training in Edinburgh, his fine sense of colour, and
strong association with Scottish art and artists of the
mid 20th century, Muszynski has come to be regarded as a
'Polish Scottish Colourist'.
