Artist:
HUBERT ANDREW FREETH, RA, RE
(1912-1986)
Title: 'Le Penseur' (pencil signed
etching) Description:
Andrew Freeth
was a very well known painter and printmaker, who
exhibited with the Royal Academy, Royal Society of
Painter Etchers, Royal Society of Watercolour Painters,
etc. He was elected a full member of the RA in 1965 and
has work in many public collections, including the
British Museum.
The etching 'Le Penseur' is
one of his best known prints, having been published
originally in 1952. This example was produced much
later, when I think Freeth pulled some additional prints
for his personal use on lesser quality paper. It is
pencil signed and titled by him and dedicated 'To
Kathryn and John, 19 March 1983, with every good wish
from R and A'. Andrew Freeth's wife's name was Roseen,
hence the 'R and A'.
The image measures 11.8 x 9
inches. It is housed in a modest 1980s frame which has
very recently lost it's glass. The print is in good
condition save for some minor indentations in the paper...
