Artist: JOHN HUMPHREY SPENDER (1910-2005)

Title: 'Cornish Tin Mines' - original unframed lithograph

Description: Humphrey Spender was an internationally known photographer, painter and printmaker, and brother to the poet Stephen Spender.  He had one man painting shows at the Redfern and Leicester Galleries, and the New Art Centre, and his work is held in the Victoria & Albert Museum, and many other public collections.

In 1969/70 Spender made a series of lithographs for the well known Curwen Prints Limited, a number of which are in the Government Art Collection. The present lithograph is known as 'Cornish Tin Mines' (see also our other Spender listing) and it is pencil signed and numbered 58 of 65 prints.  The sheet size is about 23 x 31 inches and the image size is 16.5 x 26.5 inches.  In good condition, this print does have some light handling creases and a one inch tear to the paper at the upper margin (well away from the image)...
