Humphrey Spender
was an internationally known photographer, painter and
printmaker, and brother to the poet Stephen Spender. He
had one man painting shows at the Redfern and Leicester
Galleries, and the New Art Centre, and his work is held
in the Victoria & Albert Museum, and many other public
collections.
In 1969/70 Spender made a
series of lithographs for the well known Curwen Prints
Limited, a number of which are in the Government Art
Collection. The present lithograph is known as 'Cornish
Tin Mines' (see also our other Spender listing) and it
is pencil signed and numbered 58 of 65 prints. The
sheet size is about 23 x 31 inches and the image size is
16.5 x 26.5 inches. In good condition, this print does
have some light handling creases and a one inch tear to
the paper at the upper margin (well away from the image)...
