Artist:
WILLIAM GEAR, RA (1915-1997)
Title: 'BLACK ELEMENT' (original
lithograph) Description:
William Gear was
one of Britain's most innovative and respected post war
artists. He gained international fame as a member of
the COBRA group of artists, and shared a two man show
with Jackson Pollock in New York in the early 1950s.
His work is now collected widely and is stocked by some
of the world's major commercial galleries, such as the
Redfern Gallery in London.
This unframed original
lithograph is pencil signed and dated 1950, and is from
a key period in Gear's work. It is on white wove paper
watermarked BLK, and is numbered 19 from an edition of
25 only. The lithograph measures about 41 x 27 cms
image size and about 51 x 33 cms paper size. The print
is in good overall condition, but does have some
handling creases and there is some light very sporadic
foxing, mainly in the margin...
