Title: 'MONDRIAN STOMP: INSIDE OF THE OUTSIDE, NUMBER 3'

Description: This original acrylic on canvas measures 39 x 39 inches (100 x 100 cms) and is signed, dated 1973 and titled verso.  It is housed in what we believe to be the original aluminium frame and it has a 1970s label from the Sala Pelaires Gallery of Palma de Mallorca. Bird had one man exhibitions at Sala Pelaires in 1975, 1978, 1981 and 1983, and this work is very probably from the first show.  The painting is in very good original condition.

Bird was born at Bloxwich and went to live as an artist in Spain in 1962.  He moved to the United States in 1980, and became a good friend of the painter Robert Motherwell, with whom he shared joint exhibitions.

Jim Bird has had over 100 one man shows and has exhibited widely throughout the world, including at Galeria Joan Prats, Barcelona; The Art Package, Chicago; Redfern Gallery, London; River Gallery, Westport; Goldman-Kraft Gallery, Chicago; Lucy Berman Gallery, Palo Alto; and Gallery Art Alpha, Tokyo; and he has also shown at the Basel Art Fair and the International Print Biennale etc...
