Humphrey Spender was an
internationally known photographer, painter and
printmaker, and brother to the poet Stephen Spender. He
had one man painting shows at the Redfern and Leicester
Galleries, and the New Art Centre, and his work is held
in the Victoria & Albert Museum, and many other public
collections. Impressions of
the present print, 'Reedy Pool, Essex' are held by the
Tate Gallery and also the Government Art Collection.
In 1969/70 Spender made a
series of lithographs for the well known Curwen Prints
Limited, of which 'Reedy Pool, Essex' is one of the most
beautiful. The present lithograph is pencil signed and
numbered 39 of 65 prints. The sheet size is about 23 x
31 inches and the image size is 17.2 x 25.2 inches.
It is in very good condition but does have some light
handling creases to the margins...
