We
have a small selection of original work by the American
abstract expressionist painter and printmaker, Bernard
Kohn, who was born in Philadelphia and lived there for
most of his life. Kohn was also very interested in
music and poetry and he illustrated poems by Garcia
Lorca, St John Perse and others. He also published
music.
Bernard Kohn's work was exhibited at the Philadelphia
Museum of Art, the National Serigraph Society, the
American Colorprint Society (of which he was a member),
Boston Printmakers etc, and he had one man shows in
Philadelphia, New York City and Reading, Pennsylvania.
His work is held in several public collections including
the Art Institute of Chicago. He visited England and
France on many occasions from the 1930s onwards, and
spent much time in London over an extended period. He
also worked in Cornwall.
This very powerful colour wood engraving is on thin
handmade paper with deckled edges and full margins. The
image size is about 10.2 x 14 inches and the print is in
very good condition. It is unframed. The engraving is
signed, titled, dated (19)56 and numbered 15 of 16
prints only...
