Artist:
JOHN
BRUNSDON, RE, ARCA (born 1933)
Title:
'WINTER' (framed etching with aquatint)
Description:
John
Brunsdon is widely acknowledged as being one of
Britain's finest contemporary printmakers. His work is
held in many public collections, including the Tate
Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Museum of
Modern Art, New York.
Brunsdon's earlier works of the 1960s were markedly
abstract in form and were influenced by the American
abstract expressionists. To use his own words
his prints from this period 'evoke an inner world and
spiritual awakening'. These early works are now scarce
and are much collected.
We
are pleased to offer 'Winter' an original etching with
aquatint which dates from 1966. The print measures
about 17.7 x 23.5 inches image size, and is pencil
signed, titled and numbered 13 of 50. It is in very
good condition save for some minor time staining where
the mount abuts the print. The etching has deckle edges
and full margins. This print was at one time in the
collection of the leading dealers William Weston Gallery
of Albemarle Street, London W1 (their label is attached
to the backboard) and it was framed by Framery Ltd of
Blandford Street, W1. The frame is silvered and in
quite good condition although there are some losses
which do not really detract...
