James
Hull was amongst the most innovative artists of the Post
War period. His earliest paintings were figurative but
by 1950 he started producing abstract compositions. He
had one man shows in London at Gimpel Fils Gallery, the
Strickland Gallery, the Adrienne Resnick Gallery, and
Whitford and Hughes. His work was included in numerous
group shows, amongst them the 1951 British Abstract Art
exhibition. In the 1970s he spent some time designing
jewellery but concentrated again on painting in the
1980s.
The
present painting measures about 19 x 26.2 inches sight
size and is housed in an attractive modern frame. It is
in acrylic on paper and is signed and dated XI 1988.
Condition of the work is excellent. It has the label
verso of Whitford Fine Art...
