Description:
Peter
Matthews is well known printmaker and teacher. He
studied at Ealing School of Art 1957-62, assisted David
Hockney at Editions Alecto in London 1962-64, and was
Senior Lecturer in Printmaking at Wimbledon School of
Art 1966-98. He has exhibited extensively including at
the Royal Academy, RWS Gallery, Scottish Print Open,
Edinburgh Printmakers, and with the Royal Society of
Painter-Printmakers being elected a Fellow and later
Council Member 1984-98. His work is held in a number of
public collections in the UK and overseas, including the
Victoria & Albert Museum; British Council; Northampton
Art Gallery; Ferens Art Gallery, Hull; Southampton Art
Gallery; Arts Council of Northern Ireland; Albertina
Museum Vienna; and Free Library, Philadelphia.
This original colour etching measures about 17 x 19.4
inches image size and about 27 x 29.5 inches inside its
1970s frame. The etching is in excellent condition and
appears to have full margins (not examined out of the
frame). The frame is in acceptable condition but there
are a few chips and other losses.
The
print is signed, dated (19) 73, titled and numbered 17
of 50...
