Description:
Patrick
Procktor is regarded as one of the outstanding British
artists of his generation. He declared himself as the
enfant terrible of the 1960’s art world, known as ‘the
one who drew Joe Orton in his socks’. He entered the
Slade School of Art in 1958 and formed friendships with
many of the leading art world figures of his day, such
as Cecil Beaton and David Hockney.
His
first exhibition was at The Redfern Gallery, London in
1963 and the following year he exhibited in his first
‘New Generation’ show at the Whitechapel Gallery.
Subsequently, had many shows at The Redfern Gallery, and
in Venice, France, Germany, and in Asia. In 1995 he was
elected RA. His work is held in many public
collections, including The Tate Gallery; Metropolitan
Museum of Art New York; Los Angeles County Museum;
Contemporary Art Society; Imperial War Museum,
London; and the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester.
This screenprint was published by Christies Contemporary
Art in 1972 and has their embossed seals in the paper
lower left. It is signed by Procktor in pencil and
numbered by him 199 of 250 prints. The print measures
17.7 x 23.5 inches image size and about 23.2 x 31 inches
paper size.
The
print is in very good condition, save for some minor
time staining in the margins (away from the image), and
some tape residue to the reverse of the print. The
piece has not been laid down. It has a simple silver
coloured frame typical of its 1970s period, which is
available to the purchaser although this will increase
shipping costs (see below)...
