Artist: DOROTHY MEAD, LG (1928-1975)

Title: 'WESTMINSTER ABBEY' (framed oil on canvas)

Description: Dorothy Mead studied with David Bomberg 1944-51 and was a co-founder of the Borough Group (along with Cliff Holden and Dennis Creffield).  She exhibited with the short-lived but highly influential Borough Group from 1946-51.  Dorothy Mead became a member of the London Group in 1959 and its President in 1973, two years before her untimely death.

This oil on canvas measures 30 x 21.6 inches image size and was framed within the last three or four years.  It is dated (19)49 and may be initialled, but it is hard to tell without removing the painting from the frame.  We understand that this work came from Dorothy Mead's estate and it was exhibited in 2004 at the Boundary Gallery show 'Bomberg and Pupils' - The Borough Group 1946-51.  It is in very good condition, with heavy impasto, as one would expect from a Borough Group picture of this date...
