Artist:
E
MAURICE FEILD (1905-1988)
Title:
'CHILD
ASLEEP'
(original unframed oil on board) Description:
Painter and printmaker, closely associated with the
Euston Road School. He studied art at the Slade School
in the 1920s and taught there later in life, after a
spell teaching at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts
after the War. His work is held in the Government Art
Collection. His friend Sir William Coldstream helped him
to organise a retrospective at the Upper Grosvenor
Galleries in the early 1970s. Feild's work was also
shown at the Cooling Gallery and Walker's Galleries in
London. His pictures are invariably signed and titled
by him verso. Maurice Feild lived in London.
This painting of a young girl sleeping is on a thick
board and is quite small, measuring about 6.6 x 6.2
inches. It is in good original condition but the board
itself is a little uneven at the edges. Feild has
signed it in block letters verso, titled it and priced
the painting then (we think 1940s /early 1950s) at 10
guineas. It needs a frame to set it off properly. We
also have a larger oil available by this artist, which
was shown at the Upper Grosvenor Galleries retrospective
exhibition (see
#ref 0363)...
