Artist:
MAURICE
FEILD (1905-1988)
Title:
'VALERIE WITH A BALL'
(original framed oil on canvas) Description:
E
Maurice Feild was a painter and printmaker, closely
associated with the Euston Road School. He studied art
at the Slade School in the 1920s and taught there later
in life, after a spell teaching at Camberwell School of
Arts and Crafts after the War. His work is held in the
Government Art Collection. His friend Sir William
Coldstream helped him to organise a retrospective at the
Upper Grosvenor Galleries in 1970. Feild's work was
also shown at the Cooling Gallery and Walker's Galleries
in London. His pictures are invariably signed and
titled by him verso. Maurice Feild lived in London.
This oil on canvas measures 24 x 20 inches image size.
It is signed and titled verso and we believe that it
dates to the early/mid 1950s. The painting was shown at
Maurice Feild's retrospective exhibition (catalogue
number 19) held in London at the Upper Grosvenor
Galleries in October 1970. We think it was reframed for
that exhibition and a photocopy of the catalogue for the
retrospective show is with the painting. The painting
is in excellent condition...
