Artist:
THOMAS
SWIMMER (born 1932)
Title:
'HARBOUR SCENE, MEDITERRANEAN COAST' (original signed
watercolour) Description:
A
painter and designer, Thomas Swimmer was born in
Dieppe. He studied at Heatherley's School of Art
1948-50 under Iain MacNab and at the RA Schools 1950-56
under Peter Greenham. He received the Royal Academy
Gold Medal in 1955. Swimmer exhibited at the RA,
Redfern Gallerey, London and in the provinces, and his
work is held in public collections. He lived in London.
This work is in mixed media, mainly watercolour but also
some gouache. It measures 16 x 12 inches image size,
and is signed and dated 1954. The painting is housed in
what appears to be the original frame, which is chipped
in places and it now has a rather tired look. The
painting is in satisfactory condition, save for the fact
that the surface of the paper is now a little uneven
(the work hasn't been laid down and probably needs
attaching to a new mount to hold it securely).
During the 1950s and early 1960s Swimmer worked
extensively in Europe, especially along the coasts
around the Mediterranean. We think this work may have
been painted in Greece. We have other work by Thomas
Swimmer available, including two oil paintings.
We currently have three
paintings for sale by Thomas Swimmer, under stock
numbers #0188; 0283; and 0366...
