Artist: DEREK LANGTON ROGERS (1910-1987)

Description: Derek Rogers was a landscape painter who worked mainly in London, the Isle of Wight and Sussex.  He exhibited several oils at the Royal Academy, and lived initially in London.  In the early 1950s he moved to Brighton where he became Keeper of the collection at Brighton Art Gallery.  We have two other paintings of London by Rogers, with whom my family was acquainted.

The present painting is signed lower right and although not dated, it was executed circa 1948.  It measures 16 x 24 inches, and is unframed.  As the painting had remained unstretched for many years we had it lined and cleaned a few years ago.  It is now in pristine condition and in our opinion is one of Derek's most accomplished and atmospheric pictures...
