Title: 'LANDSCAPE IN CRETE' (original signed watercolour - mounted but unframed)

Description: Sir Colville Barclay studied art at the Ruskin School of Art under Albert Rutherston.  He exhibited a number of pictures at the Royal Academy in the 1950s and 1960s, and also showed at the Royal Society of British Artists, the London Group, and in the provinces. His work is held in several public collections and is now much sought after. Sir Colville lived at Petworth in West Sussex and the present work was acquired from him in 1998.

This watercolour measures about 8.9 x 11.3 inches and is mounted though unframed.  It is in excellent condition with fresh colours. The painting is signed but not dated. However, we think it was produced circa the mid 1950s, as Sir Colville showed other paintings of Crete at the Royal Academy in 1955 and 1957...
