Description:
The
Scottish painter and printmaker Horne Shepherd was born
in Dundee and he studied at Dundee School of Art and
then at the Glasgow School of Art in the late 1920s. He
came to London in the mid 1930s, and later exhibited at
the Royal Society of British Artists, New English Art
Club, London Group, Leicester Galleries, Redfern
Gallery, Royal Scottish Academy and Society of Scottish
Artists, etc. He moved to West Sussex later in life.
We have three original prints and a drawing by the
artist being listed today (please see also earlier item
#0342). The present print is a linocut measuring 11.7 x
8 inches image size on paper measuring 12.6 x 11.2
inches. The print is editioned 20 out of a production
of 33 prints but it is not pencil signed by the artist.
It is in excellent condition and is likely to date from
the mid to late 1960s. The provenance of this work is
the artist's family and subsequently The Collectors
Gallery, who mounted the print and had the artist's name
inscribed on the mount...
