ANNE SPALDING
Title:
'TWENTY FIVE PAST TWELVE'
(on the London Underground) - original signed
lithograph - framed
Description:
The
painter and printmaker Anne Spalding (born 1911) trained
in London and at Oxford at the Ruskin School of Art
1929-33. Spalding exhibited on a number of occasions at
the New English Art Club etc, and eight of her
lithographs are in the collection of the National
Portrait Gallery. A major retrospective show was held
at Sally Hunter Fine Art of Belgravia in the late 1980s.
The
present print measures 17.7 x 13 inches image size, and
is pencil signed, titled 'Twenty Five Past Twelve' and
annotated 'Artist's Proof'. It is housed in a
reasonable quality modern frame, overall in good
condition but with one or two dents in the moulding.
The lithograph itself is in excellent condition save for
minor creasing to the lower left corner (outside the
image). This is one of a series of prints Anne Spalding
made of the London Underground probably in the 1960s.
It is quite a lot larger than the other prints we have
seen from this series...
