Artist:
ALISTAIR GRANT
Title:
'BIRDS AND BRIDGE'
(original lithograph - unframed)
Description:
Alistair Grant,
RBA, ARCA (1925-1997) was born in London
but as his mother was French he spent his childhood in
Etaples, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, and he returned regularly
to the family home there. He taught print-making at the
Royal College of Art from 1955, becoming head of the
department in 1970. He was a highly influential
printmaker and his work is held by the Tate Gallery, the
Victoria and Albert Museum, and extensively in the
Government Art Collection. During the 1950s and 1960s
his work was shown frequently at the Zwemmer Gallery in
London.
He was a full member of the Royal Society of British
Artists.
The present original lithograph measures about 19" x 14"
image size and 24" x 19" paper size. It has full
margins and is in very good condition save for some
minor creases and a small stain to the upper left corner
(well outside the image). This print is one from the
Wapping to Windsor series published by the Royal College
of Art in 1959 normally in an edition of 50 impressions
per print. All the prints from this series were signed
by the artists in the plate, just below the image. Thus
this lithograph is not individually hand signed or
numbered by the artist as none from the series were so
signed.
The lithograph is printed on good quality paper with the
impressed watermark RCA (Royal College of Art). Another
impression of this print was acquired for the Government
Art Collection from Editions Alecto in 1963...
