John Worsdale (born 1930) is a member of the well known Wapping Group of Artists, founded in 1946. The Group members are dedicated to painting the River Thames from towns such as Henley to the harbours of the East Coast in Essex.   The artist was born in Southend and he became a 'Wapper' in 1974.  Worsdale is best known for his river and coastal subjects but he has also painted some excellent street scenes in London.  Six of his paintings are illustrated in colour in the book 'The Wapping Group of Artists' published in 2005.

The present painting is in oils and measures about 12 x 24 inches image size, and is signed by the artist lower right.  This painting of two boats on the River Thames at Strand-on-the-Green is titled on the artist's label attached to the reverse.  The painting is in excellent condition. The frame is in good order for its age.
