Artist:
MARJORIE
INCLEDON
Title:
'CAR PARK
ON SUNDAY' (framed oil on canvas)
Description:
Marjorie
Incledon (1891-1973) studied at Birmingham College of
Art, the Central School of Arts and Crafts and later at
Brighton School of Art. She
was cousin to J R R Tolkien
and with her sister Mary invented the animal language
Animalic. Incledon exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal
Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Oil
Painters and with the Society of Sussex Artists, and
lived in Ditchling, East Sussex.
The
present painting measures about 15 x 25 inches image
size, and is signed by the artist with her monogram.
The painting was exhibited at the well known Attic Club
in the village of Ditchling, and has its original label
with price of 14 guineas attached. Ditchling was home
to a good number of artists, including Frank Brangwyn,
Knighton-Hammond, Louis Ginnett, Charles Knight, Eric
Gill, Edgar Holloway etc, etc.
The oil
is in very good original condition save for some minor
'bulging' of the canvas at the upper corners. The frame
is original but has some losses to the moulding and
ideally it should be replaced...
