Artist:
BENEDICT RUBBRA
Title: 'UNTITLED'
-
framed
original watercolour
Description:
Benedict Rubbra (born 1938) is a painter mainly of
landscapes and portraits, son of the composer Edmund
Rubbra. He studied at Christ's Hospital, Horsham and
then at the Slade School of Fine Art, London. He had
his first one man show in 1965 and subsequently painted
portraits of notable people, including HRH The Prince of
Wales, Sir Colin Davis, and Lord Hailsham. His work has
also been shown at the Barbican Centre, The County
Museum in Aylesbury, and with John Bly in Bury Street,
SW1.
The
present painting is a watercolour, signed and dated
1968. It measures about 21 x 21.7 inches excluding its
frame. The work is housed in what we think is the
original frame, which is in satisfactory condition for
its age, and has #17 on the reverse perhaps indicating
that this watercolour was included under that number in
an exhibition. The watercolour is in good condition,
save for some light staining where the paper abuts the
mount and some rippling in the paper...
