PETER BROOK
TITLE:
'OCTOBER, PENNINE ROAD'
- original signed colour lithograph: unframed
Description:
Peter Brook
RBA (born 1927) was born at Holmfirth in Yorkshire and
studied at Huddersfield School of Art and then at the
Goldsmiths College of Art, London. He was known
initially as a painter of industrial landscapes but by
the 1960s had become very well known for his Pennine
rural landscapes, especially winter scenes. Brook
exhibited widely and was elected to the Royal Society of
British Artists in 1962. He had a number of one-man
shows at Agnew's in Old Bond Street, which helped to
make his views of town and landscape in his native West
Riding, the Lake District and Scotland well-known to a
large number of collectors both in the United
Kingdom and the United States. Peter Brook lives in
Brighouse, West Yorkshire.
The present work is an
original colour lithograph 'October - Pennine
Road' dating from the mid 1970s and published by Agnew's
in 1978 as one of a series of prints titled 'The Twelve
Months of the Year'. The lithographs were in an edition
of 150 prints on mould-made Saunders paper, produced at
the Curwen Studio London. The image measures about 20 x
28 inches and the sheet size is about 22.2 x 30.5
inches, and is signed in pencil and numbered by Peter
Brook 101 of 150.
The lithograph has been
priced to take account of the presence of creases to all
four corners, some staining in the margins (away from
the image), and some light marks to the surface of the
print on the image (please see photo). In our opinion
the lithograph would benefit from light professional
cleaning and is offered on this basis. The paper has a
deckle edge to the upper margin and has no tears or
holes...
