Artist:
BETTY CONNAL
Title:
'STRUCTURE AILEE'
- original etching with aquatint - unframed
Description:
Betty
Connal (also known as Betty Connal-Peebles) was born in
1935. A painter and printmaker, her work is in the
Government Art Collection (eight examples) and it was also
bought by local authorities for their collections.
This superb heavily abstracted etching with aquatint is
pencil signed, titled 'Structure Ailee' and is numbered 9 of
50 only. Presumably the artist worked in Paris for a time
as a number of the prints made in the late 1960s/early 1970s
have titles in French. Her work was certainly on exhibition
in Paris during that period. Although not dated we think
the present print is likely to date to 1970-73, which is
also consistent with the dating of the examples in the
Government Collection.
The print measures about 26 x 20.2 inches sheet size and has
deckle edges. It has not been trimmed. The image size is
about 21.5 x 17.5 inches. Overall the print is in very good
condition, save for some creasing to the corners and some
tape reside to the reverse. There is no evidence of
foxing. The work is unframed...
